First Symptoms of Pregnancy – Am I pregnant?
The Early Week Signs in Pregnancy
If you think you may be pregnant, your mind is probably racing with either fear, possibility or both. Here you can discover symptoms and compare them to what you are experiencing. Many of these symptoms are recognizable as early as the first six to twelve days after conception. There are many physical and emotional changes which help you to interpret your condition. The hormonal changes occur in the very early stage of pregnancy. Feeling very warm, and not being able to cool down can be a very early sign of pregnancy.
Real Symptoms of Pregnancy – The very first signs
Early Missed Period or Spotting
Missing periods is one of the most reliable symptoms for pregnancy, but for those who usually have regular periods. If you have missed your period completely or have had just some mild cramping with slight bleeding, this should not be considered a regular menstrual bleeding. Ovulation is the release of an egg into the fallopian tubes, where it waits to be fertilized. If the egg is not fertilized, it is cleaned out by the body through the process of menstruation. Light spotting occurs when the embryo implants itself into the uterine wall. This spotting, otherwise known as implant bleeding, can occur as early as after initial week. If you are experiencing any bleeding less than your normal monthly amount, consider it spotting and a possible sign of pregnancy. Since true menstrual bleeding will occur only if the released egg isn’t fertilized, menstrual bleeding is not possible in pregnancy period. The spotting or vaginal bleeding sometimes may be misinterpreted as menstrual bleeding.
Another of the early signs, felt as early as the initial week, is extreme fatigue with nasal congestion. This is beyond normal tiredness from daily activities, making a pregnant woman feel she is unable to go through her normal day without a rest. Some women are racked by fatigue, dizziness and a kind of mental bleariness during pregnancy. Some women may feel hungry not so long after a meal. You may also feel much worn down, and like skin is breaking out. The blood pressure and glucose level will be dropped which may run you to tiredness. This tiredness is due to the level increase of progesterone hormone and blood production. This typically will pass after the initial trimester. Mild exercise and taking proper vitamins will help this condition slightly.
Breast Tenderness and Changes in Appearance
Increase in hormone production also causes breast swelling and tenderness, one of the most uncomfortable early signs. This is kind of more swelling and tenderness than experienced during ovulation. The appearance of the breasts may also change, with the areola darkening and the veins more visible under the skin of the breasts. A swollen or tender breast is a pregnancy symptom which may begin as early as 1-2 weeks after conception. Women may notice changes in their breasts; they may be tender to the touch, sore, or swollen. Some may experience breast pain and sometimes not even able to touch it. Nipples may be so sensitive, red and itchy.
Nausea and vomiting
The most unpleasant symptom of a pregnant woman is to feel nauseous around the three week mark. Nausea can occur with or without vomiting. Although this pregnancy symptom will often show up between 2-8 weeks after conception, it can last throughout the 40 weeks. Nausea is sometimes coupled with aversions to certain foods. This morning sickness may last till your 12th week and would be worse at empty stomach conditions. Some women are fortunate to not deal with morning sickness at all, while others will feel nauseous throughout most of their pregnancy period. It is advisable to seek prescribed anti-nausea medications for pregnant women with extreme cases of nausea and vomiting.
A pregnant woman is a minefield of emotions. Wide swings ranging from tears through happiness to anger are common during this time. This can be a sign, in combination with other signs, increases the chances of pregnancy.
Food Aversions, Cravings
Hormonal changes inside your body will make sudden food cravings and dislikes to you. Different odors may feel disgusting because of this hormone level change. Cravings for certain foods can happen during any part of the process, from beginning to end. There would be a sudden change in the sensitivity of smelling. This increase in sensitivity to smell means certain foods suddenly don’t smell appetizing, and a woman develops an aversion to particular foods. Some women feel very thirst during this time. Cravings are often thought to be the body’s natural way of asking for the nutrients it needs, for example, a woman craving oranges may have a body that is crying out for folic acid. You may feel like intense desire for strange tastes like cement, clay, metals etc. Sometimes it feels a tingle on the tongue.
Headaches and Dizziness
Tension headaches experienced more often than normal are common early on pregnancy. The sudden rise of hormones in your body can cause you to have headaches. Dizziness, feeling light-headed and fainting can also be a clue. Most of the women may have light headed/dizziness whenever getting up from a sitting or lying position.
Bloating and Cramping
Bloating in the abdominal area of the body can occur very early. Feeling of fullness, congestion in abdomen supports bloating during early stage of pregnancy. Another early marker is excessive gas, passing unusually foul-smelling gas and unusual burping. The feeling of cramping, most similar like a pre-menstruation, is common at early period of pregnancy.
An increase in vaginal discharge may be experienced, showing in the initial week or two of pregnancy. The discharge will be milky white in color and may be of thicker consistency than normally experienced. Some may experience increased vaginal wetness without infection (clear and watery-not stretchy like in ovulations).
Chronic Back Pain
Even though in the early first weeks a baby is not heavy, a chronic dull pain in the lower back similar to what may be felt during menstruation, is common. The position varies but most of the women feel it at right side of lower back.
Upon 6-8 weeks after conception, your trips to the bathroom may increase like less than each hour. An increase in frequency of urination, particularly if you can’t sleep all night without getting to pee, could be a sign you are pregnant.
If you are experiencing more of these symptoms, trust your body. Have a check, you may be pregnant.
Early Symptoms of Pregnancy – Care and Precautions for the Child and Mother
You will need to treat your body as if it is pregnant, get a home pregnancy test and see a doctor to begin prenatal care. But it is really hard to confirm pregnancy in the very early stages. The most reliable way is to have a home pregnancy test. You should test at least 14-17 days after intercourse, or when you miss a period it should be accurate. A pregnancy test detects the presence of a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) in your blood or urine. HCG is produced in the placenta shortly after the implantation and builds up rapidly in your body in the initial few days of pregnancy. Most doctors recommend that you wait until the 1st day of your missed period before taking a home pregnancy test, but there are kits available in market which would give you results 5 days after conception.
If you were using pills, and if you think you are pregnant you need to stop taking the pill immediately. If you start to bleed within the initial week you came off of the pill, you are probably not pregnant. If you take the test right now, it will be inaccurate because birth control adds hormones to your body, which can affect the amount of HCG in your urine. If you don’t bleed or you only bleed a little bit that week you stop taking the pill, go to your doctor and get a blood pregnancy test done. Through blood test it is possible to find out the accurate result if taken 5 days after conception.
